The mountains in Jasper National Park are renowned for their beauty. But have you seen them from above? Viewing this towering landscape from on high brings a whole new level of awe-inspiring scenery that is sure to take your breath away. You don’t have to climb to the top of the peaks, either. Here are our favourite ways to take in the mountainous scenery from above, from Jasper heli tours to the Jasper SkyTram and the Columbia Icefield Skywalk.

Take Flight

Soar through the mountains this summer and experience a bird’s-eye-view of the majestic peaks in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Rockies Heli Canada has been flying people through the Canadian Rockies since 1999, and they know the best places to get those exceptional mountain views from above. In addition to sightseeing, they also offer adventure packages for those looking for a true mountain experience. Book heli-fishing, glamping, hiking, or horseback riding and round out your adventure.

Jasper Hinton Air is a small company run by local pilots that offers big tours to top off your vacation. Try sightseeing in their fast flying, long range helicopter or combine your flight with a backcountry adventure like heli-picnics, heli-hiking, or heli-yoga. Looking to make your big day extra special? Their heli-wedding packages are out of this world, and they’ll fly you to some of the most stunning locations for the best photos you can imagine. These pilots have over 20 years of experience flying locally, and they’re happy to customize your trip to meet your needs. This Jasper heli tour company is the closest to Jasper and Hinton.

Glide on High

The Jasper SkyTram can bring you to the top of Whistler’s Mountain with little to no effort. This aerial tram lands guests 2,263 metres/7424.5 ft up the mountain, and the interpretative operator will fill you in on the unique geology, cultural heritage, plantlife, and wildlife of this unique landscape. A short and relatively easy hike takes you to Whistler’s Peak, where you can enjoy 360° of six mountain ranges, including Mount Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies.

The upper terminal also features dining at Summit Café. This cozy restaurant has fantastic views through large windows and serves a classic menu with delicious meals and desserts.

Walk in the Sky

If you’ve ever fancied walking on air, the Columbia Icefield Skywalk is your ticket to the sky. This supported glass platform allows you to walk 280 m/918 ft above Sunwapta Valley for unobstructed views of fossils, waterfalls, and glaciers. The 1 km/0.62 mi walk to the platform is filled with interoperative information about the area, the environment, the importance of glaciers, local wildlife, and so much more.

To experience the Skywalk, stop at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre on the Icefields Parkway and take the shuttle to the Skywalk. At the Discovery Centre, explore all the ways to learn about glaciers and visit this unique and stunning part of the Rockies.
