The Canmore Folk Festival has been a Canmore tradition for 48 years. And for good reason! It's Alberta's longest-running folk music festival. The event takes place over the long weekend in August each year and features live music from all over the world. There are local artists who are cracking into the big leagues, international artists who come with a reputation and awards, and everyone in between. With four stages playing music all day, every day of the festival, as well as evening concerts that feature the best in folk music, this is one weekend you won't want to miss! You'll be tapping your toes and dancing along to the rhythm in the mountains all weekend long.

This year’s lineup was impressive. It featured local favourites like Amilee Patterson and huge Alberta names like Corb Lund – there was no shortage of talent! And the crowds were great. People from all over come to experience Folk Fest, and they spend the days lounging in front of stages enjoying the music, supporting local community booths, eating excellent food, or just generally having a good time. Folkies make it easy to strike up a conversation too. You might make some new friends, and you might learn something new about the world while you’re at it.

The weather this year was typical for the August long weekend: sunny with rain and thunderstorms mixed throughout all three days. This didn’t deter the festival-goers one bit. Out come the rain jackets and umbrellas – with a few people taking cover under the festival tents or the overhangs of the stages – and away we go. The show must go on.

This family-friendly event is a great way to spend the weekend for people of all ages. And it’s a good time to catch up with friends and family surrounded by relaxed vibes, mountain views, and great music.
