The mountain towns don’t have a lot of summer events. The small tourist towns are busting at the seams with visitors as it is, and there usually isn’t a reason to call in more. But when Canmore does have an event, you know it’s going to be a big one. So here are some events we’re looking forward to in Canmore.

Canmore Folk Festival

This annual event takes place on the August long weekend every year, and every year it absolutely blows us away with the quality of programming. During the day, there are three stages with excellent musicians from all around the world. It’s a great way to hear some of your favourites (and find some new ones) as you wander throughout the festival and enjoy some great music. The evening performances feature a great time with stellar performers. This year’s lineup includes Canadian singer-songwriter AHI, two-time JUNO Award winning William Prince, and local singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists The Three Sisters. Come for a day or come for the weekend and enjoy some fantastic music surrounded by the mountains.

Where: Canmore’s Centennial Park
When: August 1 – 3, 2026

Canmore Highland Games

The first Highland Games were organized by King Malcolm III, and Canmore is named after the same king (check out this article for the full explanation). These games were meant to be demonstrations of strength and skill. Now, they celebrate Scottish culture and they’re a highlight of the September long weekend every year in Canmore. We’ve written about the history of these games in Canmore, and we’re once again excited to see them come to our mountain town. Come for the weekend and see classic games like Putting the Stone, Hammer Throw, Over The Bar, Sheaf Toss, and Caber Toss. There is also great food at Taste of the Highlands, or check out the Highland Dance Competition, the Canmore Ceilidh & Canmore Hooley, and the tug of war. It’s a great weekend full of exciting events and, of course, some great beer.

Where: Throughout Canmore
When: September 4 – 6, 2026

Canmore Festival of Art & Creativity

This event celebrates Alberta Culture Days, and it combines three days filled to the brim with music and live performances, art workshops and demonstrations, hands-on activities, films, community campfires, and outdoor markets. The best part? It’s free! There are things for the family to enjoy, multicultural programming, and a great community vibe that welcomes everyone from near and far. This event happens mid-September, which is perfect for those looking for less crowds but still generally great weather. We’re excited to check this out, and we hope to see you there.
